National Inter-Varsity Accounting Quiz (NI-VAQ)

Two teams from KDU PAC Club have represented KDU College to participate in the 18th National Inter-Varsity Accounting Quiz (NI-VAQ) organised by Multimedia University (MMU) in Malacca. Each team consists of 4 members, one being the reserve member. Ms Kok was the lecturer from PAC to accompany both teams to this event.

Day 1 (19th April)

The team arrived at MMU at 8:00 am. After registration, the team were given a briefing before proceeding to the qualifying round.  The qualifying round consists of 60 multiple choice questions and 1 structural question to be attempted in 1 hour and 15 mins. All members of each team have to take the test to achieve a high enough average score to be the Top 20 teams out of 53 teams. All 53 teams were sent by various universities across Malaysia to compete. Next, there was a talk by ICAEW followed by a photography session.After lunch, the opening ceremony for NI-VAQ began. The announcement for semi-finalists  (Top 20) took place at 5:30 pm. Both of the KDU teams have successfully entered into semi-finals.

Day 2 (20th April)
The team arrived at MMU at 8:00 am. After registration, there was a talk by PWC. Shortly after, the semi-final round (buzzer round) began. 


20 teams were divided into 4 groups by drawing lots. Each group has to attempt to answer 10 questions by the Quiz Master. All teams had to compete to hit the buzzer first to answer. Every team starts with 30 marks and subsequently, marks will be added or deducted depending on the team’s answer.  The top 5 scoring teams will then take part in the final round. KDU College’s team B succeeded to obtain a high score of 45 marks which was never done before in NI-VAQ.

After lunch, there was a talk by a representative from ACCA followed by the announcing of the Top 5 finalist. Team B have successfully went into the finals. They only had one hour to prepare their presentation and slides based on the case study given.

Before the curtain closed for the day, there were performances by MMU students followed by a lucky draw session. At 6:00 pm, the event has successfully ended and Team B from KDU College have won the 1st runner up for NI-VAQ walking away with a cash prize of RM1000 and trophies.
