16th National Inter-Varsity Accounting Quiz 2017

Under the guidance of KDU Professional Accountancy Centre (PAC) lecturers  - Mr Ben Wang and Ms Kok Shwu Jiun, a total of 2 participating teams and 1 support team were sent to participate in the 16th National Inter-Varsity Accounting Quiz (N-IVAQ) held in Malacca on the 13th & 14th of April 2017.

The 16th N-IVAQ being an annual event has attracted public and private universities to its doors over the years. The national accounting quiz attracted a total of 58 teams from 32 colleges and universities across Malaysia this year, including UKM, UTAR, UiTM, UNITEN, IUKL, INTI International College, APU, Segi College, KTC, Swinburne University and Sunway College. There were two teams representing KDU College at the competition.

Wong Siew Wen.

The quiz consisted of three rounds: Qualifying, Semi-finals and Finals. Out of the many teams that participated, both teams were successful in qualifying for the semi-finals alongside 18 other teams.

The buzzer round (semi-finals) was carried out with the participation of a panel of 3 judges – Mr Manohar Benjamin Johnson (PWC), Ms Nurul Hidayah (MIA), and Mr Tan Guan Seng (Crowe Horwath), to judge and award points to the teams. Eventually, Team A made it through to the finals as one of the top 5 teams that participated in the competition.

During the final round, participants were given 30 minutes to prepare a presentation on a case selected for each team. The students were required to analyse the case and give recommendations on each matter.

Although our team did not emerge as winners and were unable to grab top prizes, nonetheless, it was an excellent platform to gain exposure & hone students' soft skills as well as provide them the opportunity to prove their abilities and also market their potential to the industry. Empowering ourselves through this experience has definitely prepared the students to hit the ground running in future events.
